Cold Snap Lucy Kincaid Novels Allison Brennan 9781250038005 Books
Every time I read an Allison Brennan book, I swear it's my favorite and Cold Snap is no exception. This novel is broken into three parts with three different story lines happening simultaneously. The first part features Patrick Kincaid which lets us finally get to know him a bit better. The second part features Lucy and Kate and is a bit lighter than the first part.with some humor and the third part features Lucy and Carina. I was glad to have Carina back again. All three mysteries are interesting, suspenseful and gripping. But my favorite part of this book is that we get to see so many personal relationships at work - Patrick and Elle, Lucy and Kate, Lucy and Carina, as well as Lucy with her father, her sister Nelia, and ex-brother-in-law, Andrew. I love when the whole family is together because the Kincaids are one of the best fictional families I've ever wished I was a part of. Maybe they can adopt me :)Tags : Cold Snap (Lucy Kincaid Novels) [Allison Brennan] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Kincaid Family Christmas Reunion is threatened by murder … ALL ROADS HOME On his way home to San Diego,Allison Brennan,Cold Snap (Lucy Kincaid Novels),Minotaur Books,1250038006,Mystery & Detective - Police Procedural,Mystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,Thrillers - Suspense,Kincaid, Lucy (Fictional character);Fiction.,Kincaid, Lucy (Fictitious character);Fiction.,Suspense fiction.,070401 Minotaur Mass Market,American Mystery & Suspense Fiction,Crime & mystery,FICTION Mystery & Detective Police Procedural,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Federal Bureau of Investigation,Fiction,Fiction - Mystery Detective,Fiction Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,FictionHolidays,FictionMystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,FictionRomance - Suspense,Kincaid, Lucy (Fictitious character),Mystery & Detective Police Procedural,Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,MysterySuspense,Officials and employees,Romance - Suspense,Suspense fiction,Suspense fiction.,Thrillers - Suspense,United States.,fbi thriller; police procedural series; women police; women cops; romantic suspense; fbi agents; federal law enforcement; cybercrime; crime thriller; female detectives; girl detective; lucy kincaid and sean rogan; alison brennan; women mystery authors; female thriller writers; new york times bestselling author; new york times best selling author; murder mystery; mystery thriller suspense; genre fiction, mystery thriller suspense; fbi thriller; police procedural series; women police; women cops; romantic suspense; fbi agents; federal law enforcement; cybercrime; crime thriller; female detectives; girl detective; lucy kincaid and sean rogan; alison brennan; women mystery authors; female thriller writers; new york times bestselling author; new york times best selling author; murder mystery; genre fiction,FICTION Mystery & Detective Police Procedural,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Fiction Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,FictionHolidays,FictionMystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,FictionRomance - Suspense,Mystery & Detective Police Procedural,Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,Romance - Suspense,Fiction - Mystery Detective,American Mystery & Suspense Fiction,Federal Bureau of Investigation,Kincaid, Lucy (Fictitious character),Officials and employees,Suspense fiction,United States.,Fiction,MysterySuspense,Crime & mystery
Cold Snap Lucy Kincaid Novels Allison Brennan 9781250038005 Books Reviews
I enthusiastically look forward to a new Allison Brennan book. Cold Snap is her latest and I enjoyed it very much. The paperback edition I read included a bonus story, Reckless, which was previously only available as an ebook.
Cold Snap contains three stories cleverly interwoven, featuring her beloved Kincaid family as they travel home for Christmas. In her Forward, Brennan reintroduces some of the family members for any new readers who may not have read the books leading up to this one. Which is helpful since the first Kincaid book was Speak No Evil in 2007. However, you do not have to read the other books to first to enjoy this one. But if you enjoy this book, I would recommend going back and starting at the beginning to follow the Kincaids through their adventures.
The first story takes place in San Francisco on December 22 and actually has very little of her protagonist, Lucy Kincaid. Other than a few phone conversations with Lucy or her boyfriend, Sean Rogan, she is absent. Instead the story focuses on her brother Patrick Kincaid. (Finally! I am sure I am not the only reader who is happy for Patrick to get his day in the sun.)
From
“On his way home to San Diego, P.I. Patrick Kincaid takes a detour through San Francisco to check on the wellbeing of a family friend who’s mysteriously been unreachable. What he doesn’t expect is to be shot at before he can find out why attorney Elle Santana won’t ask the police for help in finding a missing girl. Soon, he’s on the run from both good guys and bad as he and Elle race to find the witness and take down a sweatshop run by a corrupt businessman with a penchant for violence.”
The second story takes place in Denver on December 22 when Lucy, Sean, her brother Dillon Kincaid and his wife Kate Donovan are snowed in on their way back to San Diego for Christmas. They take refuge at a hotel where they are soon involved in solving a murder (or two).
The third story begins on December 24 in San Diego where the patriarch of the family Colonel Kincaid ends up in the hospital. Lucy’s sister Carina, an off duty cop, stumbles on a hostage situation while visiting her father.
If you want a good suspense read for the holidays this is a great choice. It may entice you to read Lucy’s next book which will take place in San Antonio, Texas where she is assigned by the FBI. Sean will be moving with her so we can be assured there will be plenty of adventures coming.

As much as I usually love Allison Brennan's books, I didn't enjoy this one as much. The book is divided into three separate novellas, rather than a cohesive story. Unfortunately, the storylines are very similar to previous books.
First we have the story of Patrick Kincaid, who was asked by his mom to check in on an old family friend. Elle is the little sister of Patrick's former high school sweetheart and daughter of Patrick's mom's best friend. Elle is all grown up now and she is a pro bono attorney. She's trying to take down the usual suspect, a wealthy businessman who probably is doing something illegal (see any previous Lucy story and replace the wealthy businessman with a politician.)
Elle, of course, eschews all help from the police and chooses to put herself into danger (see some Lucy stories as well as Kate's story, and also novels by lots of other writers.) Patrick is determined to help, though, and not just because he wants justice to be served. He feels alive for the first time since his coma after Lucy's rescue.
Elle is not a great character. There's no reason to root for her, really. She is headstrong, but in an annoying way. And Patrick's attraction to her just doesn't seem organic. It seems forced.
While Patrick is assisting Elle, he receives a text from Lucy and Sean that they have found a dead body and are holed up in Colorado. For a moment, I thought I had missed a single where that storyline was covered, but instead, it's the second novella.
First of all, I get that Lucy and Sean are always going to be solving crimes, but really, it's beyond ridiculous that every vacation turns into a murder mystery. I think it would benefit the storyline to have some time pass between these events; it would make it more believable. Second of all, the storyline itself was just, well, boring. So boring I'm not even going to go into it.
And then we reach the third novella, which involves the entire family meeting up in the hospital. That part is actually believable to me, as there was a period of about 5 years where my family spent nearly every holiday at the hospital thanks to various car accidents and illnesses. The unbelievable part in Brennan's book comes in when Lucy, newly minted FBI agent is called on to assist when there are tons of seasoned police officers and SWAT team members. But Lucy is the only one who can fix it all.
Brennan's "okay" writing is still better than a lot of stuff out there (like the Twilight series), but it just wasn't up to the high standards set by her earlier entries.
Just okay.
